Burnley’s showing for March testament to their terrific season so far

Burnley have a nominee for Premier League goal, player and manager of the month for March and are only five points off the top six.

Prior to the beginning of the season, nobody would have predicted the magnificent season that Burnley were about to execute. In only their second season back in the Premier League after being promoted as Championship winners in 2015/16, Sean Dyche has led his team of relative minnows to as high up the table as possible for any team outside of the illustrious top six.

In fact, Dyche took the club to as high as fifth place earlier this season during the build up to the festive period and has recorded some historic victories, including a 3-2 away against Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

The recent international break was further recognition of their terrific performances two uncapped Englishmen making it into the Three Lions squad, and this month, following the March Premier League award nominations, appears to be no different.

Earlier this week, the Premier League confirmed that Ashley Barnes’ strike had been nominated for goal of the month in March, whilst Chris Wood and Sean Dyche were nominated for player and manager of the month respectively.

Wood scored an impressive four goals in the month of March, whilst Barnes himself bagged three, as the club went undefeated with three wins from three, scoring seven goals and conceding only two.

This remarkable consistency has admittedly come as surprise to most. Burnley have always looked a decent defensive outfit under Dyche who is clearly an extremely talented manager, however, it has been the sustainable performances which have been most impressive.

Should Arsenal capitulate like they often do in the latter stages of the campaign, the Clarets still have a real chance of breaking into the top six and sealing a place in the Europa League qualifiers next year.

Regardless, the club and fans can be extremely proud of their team’s efforts this season and will be hoping to retain the core of their squad to challenge again next campaign.
