BT Sport’s Stephen Craigan joins Celtic’s Christie versus Morgan debate

The former Motherwell and Partick Thistle star has had his say on who he believes is the better player.

Since Lewis Morgan’s arrival at Celtic from St Mirren there has been much debate over which young Celtic loanee has the better potential to go on and have a proper Bhoys career.

As it stands, Morgan, 21, is currently being loaned out back to St Mirren for the rest of the season, while Ryan Christie, 22, is halfway through a year-long loan deal with Aberdeen.

With both players being a similar age and playing a similar attacking role, it is difficult to see them both being key members in Brendan Rodgers’ squad next season, with the roster already stacked with top quality attacking options.

The two will be competing against the likes of James Forrest, Scott Sinclair, Stuart Armstrong, Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and Jonny Hayes for the non-striker attacking positions, all of whom have much more experience playing at the top level.

Many pundits have had their say on who they believe to be the better option for Celtic next season, and former Motherwell star Stephen Craigan has been the latest to join the discussion.

Speaking last night on BT Sport’s 1845 Scottish Football Extra program, Craigan said: “If you compare Lewis Morgan and Ryan Christie at the moment in time, and even at the start of next season, Ryan Christie is a better player.

“They can both still play off the wide area and come into that gap behind the centre-forward.

“Christie is probably more creative than what Lewis Morgan would be at this moment in time, I would certainly have Ryan Christie in the team over Lewis Morgan.”

Craigan was referring back to Rodgers’ recent comments over wanting to sign a creative player. However, when asked whether or not he thought Christie had a future at Celtic, the BT Sport pundit said, “No. I think when he goes back, they’ll look to sell him on.”

Is Morgan set to become the new Christie and be subject to multiple loan deals? Or does either youngster have a genuine shot at making it long-term at Celtic Park? Only time will tell.
