Birmingham teenager Jack Concannon nets impressive hat-trick for youth side

Midfield man Jack Concannon joined Birmingham City aged only seven and has his eyes on making it into the first-team in the coming seasons.

Birmingham City’s Jack Concannon bagged an impressive hat-trick for the Blues against Colchester United on Saturday, scoring half of his team’s goals in a sizeable 6-3 victory.

City have looked impressive of late, having won four of their last four games, after reaching the FA Youth Cup semi-final following a win over Norwich City.

With much to play for in the remainder of the season, Concannon and co are looking to finish the campaign strongly on both the league and cup front.

The youngsters will face Chelsea in the Youth Cup semi-final on Wednesday 4 April; one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition with a strong contingent of high quality youngsters every season. However, according to Concannon, City have belief in themselves that they can cause an upset.

“We know Chelsea are a great side but you never know on the night. We could cause an upset,” the teenager told the Birmingham City website.

“Everyone is buzzing for it. It will be a massive night. Hopefully we will get a few fans down to support us. To play in front of a bigger crowd than usual will be a great occasion for all of us. We are the underdogs in the tie, we can play with freedom. They are expected to beat us.”

On his own game, following his hat-trick the youngster explained his emergence as a goal-scoring midfielder; something that Garry Monk will be hoping to make use of as the teenager approaches a potential debut.

“I’d say goal-scoring is something I have improved upon. I have turned more into a goal-scoring midfielder,” Concannon added.

“It was one of the things I was given last season to work on, to add more goals to my game. I think I have done that, it has helped me to chip in and helped the team to win games.”

With 13 goals in the league this season, the 18-year-old appears to be the real deal, and there is no doubt that City have a huge talent and future English prospect on their hands.
