Moussa Dembele has struggled for form this season for Celtic but has started to look back to his best in recent games.
Celtic strike legend Frank McAvennie has explained that Moussa Dembele will present a threat to Rangers on Sunday, despite having not been at his best for large parts of the season.
As it stands, Dembele has 44 goals so far for the Hoops and is rapidly nearing a half-century. At only 21, he will join an exclusive list of players to have reached that tally for the club, and is going about it in rapid fashion. It took McAvennie himself 97 games to hit 50 goals for the Hoops, while other club legends like John Hartson took 99 and Chris Sutton took 116.
Even Henrik Larsson took 84 games to achieve the statistic, and with 79 games so far, Dembele would become one of the quickest strikers to reach 50 goals for the Hoops in the club’s history.
Having netted a hat-trick in his first ever Old Firm derby, Dembele will be hoping he can emulate his debut performance on Sunday and fire his team to yet another victory at Ibrox.
“I’m a wee but more impressed with Dembele at the moment,” McAvennie told Open Goal. “He’s got a couple of games under his belt, he’s starting to look sharper, and I think that’s a big fear for Rangers.
“[Dembele is] on form, I think he’s coming back to his best, I can see signs of that, and if that’s the case then I think Rangers could be in trouble.”
The former West Ham star went on to confirm his prediction of a Celtic win, explaining that if the Bhoys turn up and play to the best of their abilities and Rangers do the same, Brendan Rodgers’ side will win because they possess the better players.
