Scott Hogan recently earned his first Republic of Ireland cap and found the net in Aston Villa’s recent victory over Reading.

Irish forward Scott Hogan is currently Aston Villa’s fourth top scorer this season with seven strikes so far and he was welcomed back into the starting line-up against Reading on Tuesday night.

The goal marked his first in over 10 Championship games and, for a man who arrived at Villa Park for £12million (BBC) from Brentford just over a year ago, it is safe to say the Irishman has not hit the heights that were first expected of him.

Last term, in his first half season, Hogan only managed a solitary strike, and with seven goals this campaign, his tally for Villa stands at eight; essentially the same number his Villans teammate and compatriot Conor Hourihane has bagged this season from the middle of the pitch.

One fan went so far as to say that Hogan would be a 20-goal striker should the rest of the team have the ability to spot his runs, sparking a strong reaction, with an overwhelming amount of support for the claim.

To give the striker credit, he looked on course to achieve such a target last time out before his mid-season move to Villa, having bagged 14 goals in 25 league appearances for Brentford in the Championship before New Year’s Day.

In any case, here is a round-up of some of the reaction:
