Ashley Williams believes Sigurdsson’s Everton influence is massive in search of improved away form

The Icelandic attacking midfielder has flourished since Sam Allardyce’s Everton appointment and is a vital component to the team according to Ashley Williams.

Everton centre-half Ashley Williams has heaped the praise on club record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson, who he believes has the ability to turnaround the Toffees wretched away record.

Sigurdsson has started to look back to his best since the appointment of Sam Allardyce and has netted four goals under the new manager.

As old teammates from their time together at Swansea, Williams is well aware of Sigurdsson’s top class quality and believes the 28-year-old can be the catalyst to help the Toffees start winning games on the road.

Everton have been extremely strong at Goodison Park under Allardyce, taking 17 points from a possible 24, however, their away form continues to act as a barrier to the club in terms of progression up the table.

Last weekend saw another away loss at the hands of Watford, but Williams is targeting all three points away at Turf Moor as the Toffees take on Burnley on Saturday.

A win against Sean Dyche’s men would see Everton draw level with the Clarets and would be a massive statement of intent.

Speaking in an interview with the official Everton website, Williams said: “I knew he was a quality signing and really good player. I know him well and we have seen on a number of occasions what he can do.

“He will be frustrated he could not get more of a clear opening or a goal at Watford but in these kinds of tight matches you need players like him. He is crucial for us and comes up with some extremely important goals.”

With six goals in all competitions since joining Everton, Sigrudsson is the club’s highest scoring midfielder and will look to build on this by increasing his already significant contribution to the team.

With Wayne Rooney settling into a deeper role in midfield, allowing the Icelanic international to enjoy greater freedom behind the striker, this can only bode well for Allardyce and his man.
