Former Celtic right-back Mark Wilson believes Alfredo Morelos will cause the Hoops serious problems on Sunday.
Ex-Celtic full-back Mark Wilson has suggested that current Scottish Premiership second top scorer Alfredo Morelos will cause his former side serious problems at Hampden on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Colombian has set Scotland’s top flight alight in his first season in the SPFL, scoring 14 goals so far in the league and 17 in all competitions.
Morelos has led the scoring charts for most of the season, until former Gers man Kris Boyd recently overtook him, and the youngster will be looking to put that right against the Hoops.
After the previous derby, the striker came under some huge criticism for missing an open goal opportunity from just a few yards out which would have seen his side draw level, and will be looking to put that behind him and silence his critics with a strong performance on Sunday.
“You can’t take your eye off Morelos, I know he gets a lot of stick, and he misses chance after chance,” Wilson told Open Goal’s Right in the Coupon on 12th April 2018.
“He’s a handful, he’s a player who could be doing nothing for 60 minutes of a game, he was pretty poor by all accounts last week for a large portion of the game and he ends up scoring and set up the other one.”
With Josh Windass injured, the league’s third top scorer behind Boyd and Morelos, the pressure is on the Colombian to carry the goal-scoring burden for Graeme Murty’s side.
Off the back of a 4-0 victory, Rangers and Morelos will be raring to go for Sunday, with the chance to end Celtic’s treble winning hopes an exciting prospect.
If the 21-year-old can hold his composure, having bagged nearly 20 goals in his first season in a Rangers shirt, a winner against Celtic would top off a magnificent season and stand him in great stead for a fruitful Ibrox career in the years to come.
