The Liverpool midfielder came under some heavy criticism earlier this season, that he believed to be unwarranted.
Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has hit back at his critics following a stunning man of the match display against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Following the 24-year-old’s move from the Emirates Stadium to Anfield, many pundits criticised the England man’s decision, especially after an abysmal start to life in a Reds shirt.
Among the critics was Arsenal legend and former teammate Thierry Henry who suggested that, despite being in his mid-twenties, the Frenchman could not figure out what Oxlade-Chamberlain was good at and was confused as to what exactly the midfielder contributed to the team.
Since that period of heavy criticism, however, the Ox has gone about putting things right via his strong performances for Liverpool and, having grown into his midfield role at Anfield with flying colours, has well and truly silenced his critics, hitting back at the likes of Henry in a recent interview.
According to the Sun, the Liverpool star said: “I was very aware of those comments, yes. Those comments are probably a bit stupid. When you have watched someone long enough you know what they can do.
“I think it was more aimed at the end product side of things and doing those things that lead to a goal or setting up a goal. Fair enough, I will take those comments on the chin. It cannot shake me.
“Saying you ‘don’t know what I do’ when you have worked with me, I think it is a bit stupid.”
With Arsenal currently sitting in sixth place, 13 points off the top four, while Liverpool sit in second, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s decision has clearly paid off and the table alone is enough evidence that the move was positive for the youngster’s career.
Nevertheless, the Ox will take great pleasure from silencing his critics, who evidently were too quick to judge the midfielder after his move to Merseyside.
