The 23-year-old Scot was dropped entirely from Nottingham Forest’s squad in their win over league leaders Wolves.

Ex-Rangers star Barrie McKay, 23, has been told by recently appointed Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka that he still has a future at the City Ground, according to the Scottish Sun.
Karanka decided to leave McKay out of his match day squad ahead of last weekend’s shock victory over league leaders Wolves away.
McKay signed for Forest in the summer under former Rangers boss Mark Warburton. He also signed Hibs starlet Jason Cummings, however, Warburton has since been sacked with former Middlesbrough boss Karanka replacing him.

One of Karanka’s first moves as Forest boss was to sanction Cummings’ loan move back to Scotland to join Rangers and, with McKay being left out of the weekend’s match day squad, many feared he may suffer the same fate.
However, Karanka has ensured the 23-year-old that he still has a future at Forest and is very much in his plans.
McKay has made 25 appearances for the Reds this season, netting five goals in the league so far.

According to the Scottish Sun, Karanka said: “Barrie McKay was my decision. He is training well and he is a really good player, but I had to choose just 18 for the squad.
“They are a team, which is the most important thing for me. They are a very good group of people, they are very good personalities as individuals and this is the main thing.
“Because when you have a good group in the changing room, it makes life easier.
“For me the names, the experience, they are not so important. I will always try to pick the best 11 we have. Sometimes I will be right and sometimes I will be wrong. That is life and that is football.”

The Scotland international has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract and will be hoping to play his way into Karanka’s squad in the coming weeks.
Forest face Hull City away in the fourth round of the FA Cup this Saturday.
