Speaking to the club website Dons boss Derek McInnes said: “Manchester City have been very keen for Chidi to get some competitive game time and it’s a deal we’ve been working on for a couple of months now.”

“I’m sure he will be a positive addition to our squad.”

Nwakali’s move to Aberdeen continues the recent trend of City players heading north of the border in search of first team football.

Celtic have hosted a seemingly endless list of City youngsters on loan, not to mention the couple who have signed permanently for the Glasgow side.

John Guidetti and Jason Denayer both enjoyed successful spells at Parkhead whilst Patrick Roberts, currently still on loan from City, was a key member of last season’s title winning squad.

Dedryk Boyata and Olivier Ntcham are both former City players who made a permanent switch north of the border.

McInnes will be hopeful of squeezing some top quality football out of Nwakali who impressed from holding midfield in Norway’s top flight over the last two years.
