Celtic and Rangers need look no further than Pittodrie for proven quality.
Celtic and Rangers are used to buying up the rest of the Scottish league’s talent
As has always been the trend, the Scottish Premiership’s top players often end up earning a move to one of the Old Firm giants. Celtic currently boast Scott Brown (from Hibs), Stuart Armstrong (from Dundee United) and most recently Jonny Hayes (from Aberdeen) who signed in the summer for £1million.
Rangers themselves have their own former Aberdeen man in the form of Ryan Jack who joined the Ibrox side in the summer transfer window.
Derek McInnes rejected a move to Rangers following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in December 2017
With Aberdeen currently sitting second in the table and still flying under Derek McInnes, who ironically rejected a move to Rangers himself earlier this season following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha, the Old Firm need look no further than Pittodrie where a few of the squad members are waiting for their time to shine in a big money move to one of the country’s footballing powerhouses.
Ryan Christie battles with Daley Blind during an International friendly between Scotland and the Netherlands
Ryan Christie
Currently on loan to Aberdeen from Celtic for the second time in his career, the 22-year-old has continued to display his class week in week out. His performances have not gone unnoticed and he was handed his international debut for Scotland in a friendly against the Netherlands last autumn. The question here is whether or not he has earned a place in Brendan Rodgers’ plans.
Christie has been loaned out three times now by the Celts and, if he doesn’t get a look in when he returns to Glasgow at the end of this spell, there will no doubt be several clubs north and south of the border interested in his signature. He has been on record before saying he will not return to Celtic as a “shirt filler.”
Kenny McLean (left) told Aberdeen he will not be signing a new contract as he looks to move on at the end of the season
Kenny McLean
Another midfield youngster, like Christie, McLean will almost certainly not be plying his trade at Aberdeen following the end of this season, as the 25-year-old indicated that he will not be re-signing for the Dons come the end of his current deal. He too has come to international attention having won two Scotland caps to date.
A regular fixture in Derek McInnes’ side, McLean has been linked with Rangers in the past and would no doubt relish the opportunity to be reunited with former Dons teammate Ryan Jack who has seriously impressed since his Ibrox move.
Scott McKenna, 21, has proven to be a favourite of Derek McInnes with the Dons boss putting full trust in the youngster
Scott McKenna
21-year-old defender Scott McKenna has already been tipped to make it to the very top by teammate Kari Arnason, having proved to be a rock at the back for Aberdeen on the pitch this season.
Despite being less experienced than the previously mentioned players, McKenna’s quality is evident for all to see.
In what has appeared to be a busy window so far for both Old Firm sides, it would not come as too much of a surprise if any of the three mentioned above find themselves playing in the famous Glaswegian green or blue in the near future.
