Riyad Mahrez has asked to leave Leicester City this summer, and Everton should sign him.

Riyad Mahrez announced on Tuesday that he wants to leave Leicester City this summer after four seasons with the Foxes, reports the BBC.

The 26-year-old scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 37 Premier League appearances on his way to helping Leicester win the title and a place in the Champion’s League.

The Algerian international has not had the same impact this season, however, as he has contributed only six goals and four assists in his 36 league games.

The departure of Mahrez from the Foxes was always going to be a case of when rather than if, as he has the attributes, ability and ambition to play at the highest level.

Everton should make their case for being the side to provide him that platform, as they look to bolster their squad ahead of a serious top-four challenge next season.

The Toffees may look likely to lose Ross Barkley this summer, but the additions of Mahrez and Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, linked by Sky Sports, would provide a brilliant creative force to the high quality end product of Romelu Lukaku.

If the tricky Algerian winger can provide the same form and work rate that earned him so much praise last season, Everton could find themselves being one of the stronger sides in next seasons Premier League campaign – and it could convince the likes of Lukaku to stay for at least one more year.
