Inter Milan are reportedly working on renewing the contract of star defender Milan Skriniar, who Tottenham are keen to sign as the centre-back approaches the final six months of his current deal.

According to Sky Italia, the Nerazzurri are at work to extend Skriniar’s contract before the January transfer window, with the defender attracting strong interest from the likes of PSG as the centre-back currently looks set to leave Inter at a bargain price.

L’Equipe reported in the summer that Inter wanted as much as €80m (£70m) for Skriniar as PSG spent the entire window trying to sign the defender. However, their efforts were in vain as a deal failed to cross the finishing line as the Slovakian international remained at the San Siro.

As reported by Il Messagero, though, PSG were not alone in their interest in Skriniar, with Tottenham also in the race for the defender as both Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte dreamt of bringing the centre-back to north London in the summer.

Indeed, with PSG seemingly leading the race to sign Skriniar, it would take quite an effort from Tottenham to land the defender, with Inter now working to renew the centre-back’s contract. And the Serie A side succeeding could be disastrous for the north London club.

After all, there are few better defender’s in the world who suit Conte’s defensive style of play better than Skriniar, and the centre-back renewing his contract at Inter would be quite the blow for Spurs, who could do with a titanic figure at the back to marshall the side.

Skrinair for the longest time has looked set to leave Inter for good after quite an impressive career with the Italian giants. Which is why it would be quite the surprising outcome if the centre-back was to now stay at the San Siro after such strong interest from the likes of PSG and Tottenham.

The defender spent the entire summer linked with an exit from Milan, and whilst Inter might struggle to renew Skriniar’s contract, the 27-year-old putting pen-to-paper could be something very few pundits and supporters would have predicted heading into January.
