Chelsea have increased their efforts to sign AS Monaco midfielder and reported Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni.

According to Goal, the west London side have made a ‘step up’ to their scouting of the French youngster. Tchouameni has been linked with Chelsea for some time, and it appears that the Blues will make a move for the 21-year-old in the summer.

As per the report, Thomas Tuchel is a fan of Declan Rice, with the future of Conor Gallagher also up in the air if the on-loan Crystal Palace star continues to perform for the Eagles.

And this dilemma could play into Liverpool’s hands. The Merseyside giants are also chasing Tchouameni as reported by TuttoJuve, with Marca claiming that Monaco will only sell the midfielder if an offer of £50m is made.

With sporting director Paul Mitchell comparing the France international to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, it makes sense why the Reds and Chelsea are keen on signing Tchouameni this year.

The Monaco star has been one of the breakout players this year in both Ligue 1 and for the France national team. And both Chelsea and Liverpool will no doubt go toe-to-toe for Tchouameni this year.

Tchouameni could be more suited to Liverpool than Chelsea

An heir to Gerrard is something Liverpool fans can only dream about. Yet in Tchouameni, the Reds could well land that player if they can convince the midfielder to join over Chelsea.

Liverpool failed to sign a central midfielder last summer and could do with an extra body in the position. And based on Chelsea’s recent record of big-money signings, Tchouameni could thrive more in Merseyside than with the west London side.
