Arsenal’s decision to move for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez could give Tottenham Hotspur a clear run to sign Thomas Lemar.
According to the a report in the Telegraph, Arsenal have switched their attention from Thomas Lemar on to Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez – and that could leave the door open for Tottenham Hotspur to sign the Monaco man.
The Gunners saw a £31 million move for Lemar fail, and have now decided that Mahrez may be the better option.
If Arsenal are now hoping to land Mahrez, it could leave a clear route for Spurs to bring Lemar to North London – but they will be requiring Daniel Levy to pay up.
Monaco are known to be wanting big money for the French international, and clearly value him at higher than £31 million.
It may be that Spurs have to break their record transfer to add Lemar to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, yet his arrival would surely help them compete at the top end of the Premier League next season.
Lemar looks to be one of the most exciting, young talents in Ligue 1 – and played a key role for Monaco last term.
The 21-year-old scored 14 goals and claimed 17 assists across all competitions.
If he could re-create those figures for Spurs he would be a brilliant addition, and well worth the expensive transfer fee.
And, with Arsenal’s attention turned, now is as good a time as any for Pochettino to strike and secure a player he is clearly a big admirer of.
