According to The Independent, rival clubs could not believe that Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward signed Arthur Melo from Juventus in the summer of 2022.

The report has claimed that no other club at the time was ‘touching’ Arthur before Liverpool decided to sign the former Barcelona midfielder on a loan from Serie A club Juventus in the summer of 2022.

‘Recruitment figures at other clubs said it raised questions about Ward’, according to the report.

Ward will leave his role as the sporting director at Liverpool at the end of the season.

Arthur Melo has struggled at Liverpool

Arthur Melo has struggled at Liverpool so far this season, and it is unlikely that he will be able to make much impact at the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners between now and the end of the campaign.

The main problem with the £126,000-a-week (SalarySport) Brazil international midfielder has had injury and fitness issues.

The midfielder has yet to appear in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.

Arthur has played only 13 minutes in the UEFA Champions League for Jurgen Klopp’s side this campaign.

Now, Liverpool must have been well aware of Arthur’s poor form and injury record at Juventus before they signed him on loan last season.

So, you do have to wonder why the Liverpool recruitment decided to go ahead with the move.
