Arsenal stunned Monaco last week by offering a staggering £87 million to try and sign forward Kylian Mbappe, reliable French newspaper L’Equipe reported.

Mbappe scored 23 goals this season and the 18-year-old is Europe’s most wanted young striker.

Monaco not taking bids lightly

If Monaco can afford to resist offers of £87 million, it won’t be easy to prise Lemar from their grasp either.

Recent sales of Anthony Martial and Bernardo Silva have shown Monaco to be expert negotiators, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will have his work cut out if he wants to strike a bargain for Lemar.

Monaco are competitive from a sporting perspective and their Mbappe stance shows there is no financial incentive to sell either.

Mbappe goes, surely Lemar wouldn’t too

Arsenal may not have been successful with their Mbappe bid, but their effort is an opening salvo which could see Europe’s top clubs renew efforts.

Monaco have already said goodbye to Bernardo Silva this summer, and if Mbappe goes, they would be even more determined to keep hold of Lemar.

This is why Tottenham should push to sign the talented Lemar now, and try and strike a deal before it is too late.

Would Arsenal renew Lemar efforts?

Kylian Mbappe is not the only player Arsenal are interested in.

L’Equipe report the Gunners are ready to battle Spurs to sign Lemar, and could switch their attentions if they give up on Mbappe.

They evidently have the money to sign the Frenchman, and it would be no shame in deciding to ‘settle’ on a player who scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists last season.
