Andrea Radrizzani wants to see a Premier League 2 established.
Leeds United may be third in the Championship table and chasing promotion, but that hasn’t stopped owner Andrea Radrizzani from recommending a reform of the division.
The Whites are thriving under Marcelo Bielsa, and could finally be back in the Premier League next season if they continue with this form.
However, owner Radrizzani isn’t happy with the current state of affairs in the Championship, and has recommended a ‘Premier League 2’ to make things fair.
The Italian has told The Guardian that TV revenue in particular should be reconsidered, as Leeds are on TV regularly but aren’t given enough money for those games.
Radrizzani believes a ‘Premier League 2′ would be more sustainable, but those comments were once made by Bolton Wanderers’ Phil Gartside, and received a similar response to Radrizzani’s.
Fans have been taking to Twitter to slam Radrizzani’s comments, highlighting that he owns a broadcast company in Eleven Sports, so he has a vested interest in TV money to football clubs.
Others called him ‘clueless’ and joked that he only wanted Premier League 2 because Leeds can’t get back to the top flight, whilst others suggested it was rich to complain about TV money when the Whites are on TV more than any other Championship club.
As reported by the Birmingham Mail, Championship clubs receive £100,000 for each home game and extra £10,000 for every away game, meaning Leeds almost certainly rack up more money in TV revenue than the rest of the league on top of the £2million standard fee given to clubs for their share of the TV deal with Sky Sports.
Some Wolves fans also mocked Radrizzani, suggesting he’s ‘at it again’ after complaining about Wanderers’ methods with super-agent Jorge Mendes last season, with other comments claiming that he is dreaming and simply wants to make sure that clubs can sell their TV rights individually.
