Several fans of rival clubs have mocked Sheffield Wednesday on Twitter after the club put out a statement on their official website in which they congratulated Sheffield United for sealing promotion out of the Championship.

The Blades will be playing Premier League football next season after their win against Ipswich Town on Saturday took them to the brink of being mathematically across the line, and Leeds’ draw against Aston Villa the following day made their promotion official.

Following the weekend’s results, Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri decided to reach out with a classy gesture by congratulating Chris Wilder’s men on sealing promotion. But the move has not gone down well.

Understandably, a lot of Wednesday fans are not happy with the statement as Chansiri suggested that United’s promotion is good for the city as a whole.

And plenty of other football fans have expressed their sympathy for the disgruntled Wednesday supporters. While it is a nice touch from the Owls owner, it is disappointing to some that he has put together a fairly lengthy statement to mark their rivals’ promotion.

Plenty of fans have expressed their relief that their club have not put out a similar sort of statement, and it has definitely lot of supporters feeling somewhat baffled.
