Liverpool Under-23 assistant coach Gary O’Neil praised Leeds United on talkSPORT (10:36am, December 21, 2020).

O’Neil raved about Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa, and said that all the coaches he has spoken to have lauded the Argentine.

The former West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder also predicted Leeds not to get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

The West Yorkshire club are 14th in the league table at the moment with 17 points from 14 matches, as many as seven points above the relegation zone.

O’Neil said about Leeds and Bielsa on talkSPORT (10:36am, December 21, 2020): “I like him. I think he’s a fascinating guy. He is obviously extremely intelligent. Every coach I speak to about him is fascinated about him, the top guys speak extremely highly of him.”

The Liverpool Under-23 assistant coach added: “I also think they will get enough results to stay up.”

Making an impact in the Premier League

Leeds won the Championship title last season and have made an immediate impact in the Premier League this campaign.

The performances of the Whites against Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal this season were very impressive.

The Whites lost against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League at the weekend, but Bielsa’s side gave a good account of themselves.

Former United star Gary Neville was impressed by what he saw from Leeds in their 6-2 loss at Old Trafford in the league at the weekend.

Neville said on the Gary Neville Podcast on Sunday evening after the match: “We are doing a Monday Night Football tomorrow, and if that is Arsenal playing against Manchester United, we would be battering them. Let’s be clear.

“But I don’t think we can criticise this Leeds team just coming up from the Championship and watching them as I have today because I feel as though they deserve some leeway due to the joy that they bring when you are watching them play.”

Former United star John O’Shea has also been impressed by Leeds, but he has one worry about the West Yorkshire club.

O’Shea said on talkSPORT (9:15am, December 21, 2020): “It’s incredible to watch, I think they’ll be ok. The only worry I have is that if they do go down to the bottom of the table, they don’t have a plan B. Teams will figure them out like Manchester United did, clearing the midfield out.”
