Riqui Puig has said he’s happy with his LA Galaxy teammates despite the MLS side’s current position in the Western Conference and overall performances this year.

Speaking to MLS’ official website, the former FC Barcelona star revealed that it has taken time to get adapted to life in America and the type of soccer played in the division. Though Puig did also admit that things at the Galaxy are now starting to look up.

The California-based franchise have endured one of their roughest years in recent memory with Greg Vanney’s side currently sat 13th in the Western Conference, seven points off a play-off spot and unable to find a consistent run of form in the league.

However, recent results against Los Angeles FC have served as huge confidence boosters for the Galaxy. And Puig now believes that the atmosphere around the locker room is as good as it has ever been, though improvements can still be made on and off the pitch.

Puig said: “It’s like, it’s the opposite [of] La Liga. And I think that I need time. The team, maybe they need time to understand my type of play. But I think that I’m very happy with my teammates. I have really good atmosphere inside the locker room. And yeah, I think we need to improve a little bit more.”

Puig’s form has been central to the Galaxy enjoying some big results in recent weeks. And whilst consistency has been a problem, the Catalan midfielder is the sort of star who players will rally behind when called to action, and the 23-year-old must do just that.

Whilst making the play-offs seem unlikely, the Galaxy still has as good a chance as anybody to make the post-season if they can buckle down and get the issue of no consistency out of their system. And Puig could be the player to help lead the charge in the weeks to come.
