Paul Merson told Sportskeeda that reported Arsenal target, James Maddison, is his ‘surprise package’ for the new Premier League season.
The TV pundit thinks Leicester’s creative talent can ‘really rip it up’ for the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
And if Arsenal get their wish, the Englishman might just be able to showcase his talents in their colours next season because they are interested in the attack-minded midfielder.
Merson shared how Maddison missed out on England’s squad for Euro 2020 and how he expects the quick-thinking midfielder to showcase his talents to the world next season.
“James Maddison wasn’t called up by Gareth Southgate to represent England at Euro 2020,” said Merson. “So he will be fresh and raring to go ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League season.
“Before his unfortunate injury last season, he was absolutely flying for Leicester City and I got the feeling that he came back a bit too early. I like Maddison and I think he can make a real impact this season.
“He can really rip it up and will have an advantage over those who had international commitments earlier this summer, as those players may not start the forthcoming season for their respective clubs.”

This is a big season for Maddison because many will feel that he is behind the likes of Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Mason Mount in that pecking order of England’s creative talents.
Injuries did hit him hard last season and he did tail off towards the back end despite the Foxes winning the FA Cup.
But Maddison, unless he makes a surprise transfer switch, has Brendan Rodgers on the training ground week in and week out.
And he’s sure to get the best out of the forward-thinking player.
