Rio Ferdinand mocked Jermaine Jenas’s suggestion on BT Sport 1 (10:09pm, January 28, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is world class.
Lloris made two bad mistakes during Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Thursday evening.
The France international goalkeeper – who cost Spurs £8 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Lyon in the summer of 2012, as reported by The Daily Mail – had a confusion with Eric Dier that saw Roberto Firmino score.
That was in the closing stages of the first half, and then after the break, the 34-year-old goalkeeper pushed Sadio Mane’s effort straight into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold for an easy goal.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was following the match for BT Sport 1, and so was ex-Tottenham midfielder Jenas.
While analysing the mistake that Lloris made for Alexander-Arnold’s goal, Jenas described him as “world class”, but Ferdinand did not agree.
Jenas said on BT Sport 1 (10:09pm, January 28, 2021): “This was the poorest goal of the lot, I would say. I know Rodon’s a big mistake, but like that from a world-class goalkeeper.”
Ferdinand responded: “World class? I think you are doing him a favour.”
Doing better
Lloris is a very experienced goalkeeper who won the 2018 World Cup with France and has been a very important player for Tottenham over the years.
The Frenchman will know that he should have done better, and hopefully for Spurs fans, he will not make the same mistakes in the future.
