Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld as well as Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

Rio Ferdinand urged Manchester United to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror, insisting that the Belgian is a better option that Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
The 29-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal with the north London outfit, although Spurs do have the option of extending his contract for another 12 months.
If they choose to do that next summer, a £25 million buy-out clause will be activated in Alderweireld’s contract, so it is hard to envisage a scenario where he remains at White Hart Lane.
And Ferdinand is a huge fan of the Belgium international.
The former Manchester United and England star urged Jose Mourinho to bring the Tottenham centre-back to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes tomorrow, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror:

“Harry Maguire did great at the World Cup, but of the players potentially available he would not be my first choice. I would go for Alderweireld, all day long, because he is suited to the way United play.”
If United are to get a deal for the Spurs ace over the line, common ground will need to be reached between the two clubs regarding a transfer fee, but given Daniel Levy’s hard-nosed approach to business, it would be no surprise to see the Belgian remain in north London for another year.
