Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Martin Odegaard’s incredible form and his future at Arsenal.

The Norwegian playmaker has been utterly unbelievable for the Gunners this season. He’s the team’s top scorer in the league, and he’s also been their most effective creator.

Odegaard is finally living up to the potential he showed when he was just 15 years old, and Ferdinand has pondered whether or not Arsenal can hold onto this superstar.

The pundit was asked if he could see Odegaard leaving Arsenal for a bigger club in the summer, and he concluded that the only club the midfielder was likely to leave for was Barcelona.

Odegaard could go to Barca

Ferdinand spoke about the Gunners’ captain.

“I like his journey. There have been trials and tribulations. Expectations have been through the roof, he’s been on loan, the pride and ego took a battering. He went to Arsenal, took the captaincy and ran with it,” Ferdinand said.

“Do you reckon a big club comes in for him this summer?” Ferdinand was asked.

“The only place he goes is somewhere like Barca if they come in for him. It’s a different conversation. I don’t think his ties are with Real Madrid. I’d go as far as to say right now he’s my Player of the Year. Haaland has been great, don’t get me wrong. If Haaland eases up and Odegaard continues he’s my Player of the Year,” Ferdinand responded.

Not the first

Odegaard absolutely looks like a Barcelona player, and the sad reality is that he wouldn’t be the first Arsenal captain to ditch the Emirates for Camp Nou.

Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Thomas Vermaelen all left Arsenal for Barcelona at the peak of their powers, and, sadly, Odegaard could do the same if presented with that opportunity.

Let’s be real, Barcelona have a pull that very few other clubs do, and when the Catalan club come calling, it’s very hard to turn them down.

Arsenal will have to hope that Odegaard is out of Barca’s reach due to their financial struggles, because if they set their sights on him, he could well be on his way back to Spain.
