Rio Ferdinand has been shocked by the ‘drop off’ in form of Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Both Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski started Tottenham’s humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, which saw Cristian Stellini’s men go 5-0 down inside 20 minutes at St James’ Park.

It was Tottenham doing Tottenham things, but this time around, raising that bar of the absolutely ridiculous to even higher levels of abjectness.

Losing 6-1 is bad enough, but to concede five in 20 minutes when you are a Premier League side, and that chasing Champions League football, is beyond pathetic.

Many reasons are behind this mess, from the decline under the recently-sacked Antonio Conte, who guided them to fourth last season, to the lack of form of Son and Kulusevski.

That was touched upon by Ferdinand, who also described the club’s recruitment as ‘horrendous’, as he told FIVE.

“They have dropped off, you are right,” said Ferdinand. “I think the bigger picture is the club.

“I mean, Son hasn’t been the Son that we know and loved over the last few years. Kulusevski hasn’t been at the form from when he first come. We understand that.

“But the team is nowhere near good enough and they are shot in confidence – their recruitment has been horrendous.”

SON AND KULUSEVSKI’S STRUGGLES

The duo are probably lucky that they are still starting games, especially with cries for the likes of Arnaut Danjuma and Richarlison to be handed more starts.

After winning the Golden Boot last season, Son only has eight Premier League goals this term, with 12 from 41 in all competitions – he has failed to score in 33 of those matches.

As for Kuluseveski, he has two goals and six assists from 24 league games, with only two goal contributions since the return from the World Cup.

Last season, he had five goals and eight assists from 18 matches, so that once again proves, aside from Harry Kane, the club’s attack has lost its bite.
