Rio Ferdinand has told Five’s official Youtube channel that he believes Arsenal should keep faith in Mikel Arteta.

Arteta has come under fire this season with Arsenal sitting in 14th place in the Premier League standings.

The rookie manager made a bright start to life at the Emirates Stadium last term, when he guided them to an FA Cup triumph.

However, there have been very evident flaws in his system this time around – with Arsenal badly struggling going forward.

The Gunners have scored just 10 goals in their first 10 games of the season, and their latest defeat to Wolves has left serious questions being asked.

The voices of discontent are rising around Arsenal, but Ferdinand believes that the North London side should keep faith in their young manager.

“I love the way Arteta has set up, he has brought the young players in,” Ferdinand said.

“Mikel Arteta came in and steady the ship, told a few people this is ‘my team, this what I do’ and the players responded to it.

“But this just shows you how reliant this team are on Aubameyang, if he doesn’t score Arsenal just aren’t the same team.

“I have faith in Arteta, I’ve got to say. I believe he’s the man to turn it round. I think he’s got the right character.

“I think they’ll have to back him again in January, but the signs for me have been more positive than not.”

Unfortunately for Arteta unless results turn around sooner rather than later the pressure on his job will only increase.

Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, and if they are to lose in the North London derby, then Arteta’s place is set to be put under even more severe scrutiny.
