Liverpool knocked German champions Bayern Munich out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Rio Ferdinand hailed ‘man of the moment’ Virgil van Dijk after he helped Liverpool progress through to the next round of the Champions League by beating Bayern Munich 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena.
Both teams went into the game goalless from the first leg, but Sadio Mane put the away team ahead after 26 minutes before Joel Matip scored an own goal to level the scores just before the break.
In the second half, the Reds turned on the heat with Van Dijk scoring a thunderous header to give his side a deserved lead before Mane netted his second of the game six minutes from time to ensure his team booked their place in the last eight.
After the match, former Manchester United defender, Ferdinand sent this message about Liverpool’s win on his personal Twitter account.
Jurgen Klopp’s side join fellow English sides, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United in the quarter-final of Europe’s biggest club competition.
The former Dortmund manager will be hoping his team can take confidence from this victory and transcend it into their Premier League games as they bid to become English champions for the first time in nearly three decades.
Nonetheless, the Merseyside club produced a wonderful display in Munich when it mattered most and they will be hoping to better their Champions League final appearance from last season when they were beaten by Real Madrid.
