Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Jesse Marsch and Leeds United.
The American is the Whites’ new manager, and he’s got a real uphill job on his hands.
He may struggle to win the fanbase round as the Elland Road faithful have become die hard Bielsistas in recent years, and Ferdinand believes that he may also struggle to get the players to adapt to his style.
Indeed, Ferdinand argues that this team is so tailored towards Bielsa’s style that they may struggle to adapt to Marsch’s tactics.

Ferdinand gave his view on Marsch.
“He got the sack not long ago, he won five games out of 14 in his last job I think. He does like to play a pressing game, he’s different to Bielsa, but he does press and break quickly. The problem you’ve got is that the squad that he’s got there are very tailored towards what Bielsa wants, and the way they’ve recruited at Leeds are for Bielsa players, and are those players able to adapt to new tactics? It’s a big job, a hard job, but it’s not impossible,” Ferdinand said.
Big task
This is the big task that is facing Marsch at Leeds.
It’s not a question of whether or not he’s a good tactician, it’s whether or not he can implement his style quickly enough to make a difference.
There are only three months left of this season, and if United don’t start picking up results quickly, they’re going to be in serious trouble.
Marsch has a big job on his hands, but as Ferdinand says, it’s not an impossible task.
