Rio Ferdinand has said on BT Sports that playing in the Europa Conference League would be a nightmare for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham could play in the Europa Conference League next season if they qualify.

Spurs have finished seventh in the Premier League table this season with 62 points from 38 games.

This means that the North London outfit will enter the Europa Conference League at the playoff round stage.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand does not think that playing in the newly-formed European competition would be great for Spurs.

Ferdinand said on BT Sports: “For someone like Spurs, I think it’s a nightmare.”

The Europa Conference League is essentially the third-tier competition in Europe.

It is behind the Champions League and the Europa League in terms of prestige and prize.
