Rio Ferdinand believes only Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal can catch Chelsea this season.

When writing his column for the Times, Rio Ferdinand offered his view on the Premier League title race, and suggested that only Spurs and Arsenal can catch current leaders Chelsea.

The former Manchester United and England defender explained how he believes his former club will battle it out with Manchester City and Liverpool for fourth place.

The Blues currently hold an eight point advantage over Arsenal at the top of the table, and a further one point lead over Tottenham.

And Ferdinand shared how he believes it will be the three London clubs who are occupying the top three spots come May, when writing his column for the Times:

“In reality I see Arsenal and Tottenham as the only clubs capable of overhauling Chelsea. Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are fighting it out below them. The title race is a matter for London. Fourth place is a battle for the northwest.”

Antonio Conte’s men face a huge challenge on Tuesday night, when they head to Anfield to take on Liverpool, whilst Arsenal and Spurs face the easier tasks of games against Watford and Sunderland respectively.

United, City and Liverpool obviously cannot be ruled out of the race just yet, but they cannot afford to drop too many more points between now and May.

And a Liverpool win against Chelsea really would breathe life back into the title race, ahead of the Gunners’ visit to Stamford Bridge next weekend.
