Rio Ferdinand has taken to Twitter to wish Marcus Browne well after the West Ham youngster completed a loan move to Oxford United for next season.

West Ham have been incredibly busy this summer, with their midfield options being bolstered with deals for the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson and Jack Wilshere.

Unfortunately for some of the Hammers’ brightest youngsters, the club’s seemingly brilliant window has left them with more of an uphill battle trying to get into the first-team during the coming year. And unsurprisingly, that appears to have prompted Browne to seek a move away for the next 12 months.

The 20-year-old has joined Oxford on loan for next season, and will be hoping that his time in the League One side tempts Manuel Pellegrini to hand the starlet – who has made just one senior appearance for the Irons and is still awaiting his Premier League debut – more opportunities at the London Stadium upon his return.

And ahead of the start of the season, Browne has received the backing and support of Ferdinand, who knows what it is like to try and break into West Ham’s first-team having been handed the same task more than two decades ago before enjoying an illustrious career that included six league titles and 81 caps for his country.

Ferdinand urged Browne to express himself during his time away from the Hammers and Browne will be hoping to return to his parent club having improved his first-team prospects.
