Rio Ferdinand has said on BT Sport 1 (11:53am, October 2, 2021) that Manchester United are missing a player like Liverpool defensive midfielder Fabinho.
Ferdinand believes that United do not have a midfielder who knows the defensive role completely like Fabinho of Liverpool does.
The former United defender made the comments in the build-up to the Premier League game between the Red Devils and Everton on Saturday.
Ferdinand said on BT Sport 1 (11:53am, October 2, 2021): “All the players you just mentioned there, Fabinho, Makelele, Carrick, if you look at Barcelona, Busquets, they are all designated defensive midfielders, and they do one of those things, either they control the pace of the game and control and dictate things, or they are absolute defenders and they know to marshal that area. The problem Man United have is they don’t have a player who knows that role completely.”

World-class player
United are a very good team who have a strong midfield department, but Fabinho is a class player.
One of the best in the world in his position.
World class.
Scott McTominay and Fred are good midfield players, but they are not at the level of Fabinho.
The 27-year-old Brazil international is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and is a key figure at Liverpool.
What is remarkable about Fabinho is that he can also play in defence, as he did so seamlessly for Liverpool last season.
The Brazilian has been exceptional since he joined Liverpool from AS Monaco in the summer of 2018 for £39 million, as reported by BBC Sport at the time.
