Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand comments on his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson during his time at Manchester United.
Rio Ferdinand has made it clear that he had no problem with Sir Alex Ferguson during his time at Manchester United.
The former England international defender was on the books of the Red Devils for 12 years between 2002 and 2014.
During that period, Ferdinand established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world and won trophies galore.
The 35-year-old tasted Premier League success six times, won the FA Cup and the Champions League once each, and clinched the League Cup twice.
Now at Queens Park Rangers following his summer exit from Old Trafford, Ferdinand has good words for Ferguson, who retired from football management at the end of the title-winning 2012-13 season.
‘My relationship was good with him in general, but we had our ups and downs…we were both passionate people who wanted to win and his desire to win was ridiculous’, he told BBC Radio 5 live.
When asked about heated conversations off the pitch, Ferdinand said: ‘There were moments where he probably thought I went too far…but invariably he has the last word’.
Ferdinand’s comments come just a day after Roy Keane’s new autobiography created shockwaves around the footballing world.
In the book, former United midfielder Keane revealed many incidents that were not known to the football fans.
Ferdinand, of course, does not go into details about fights and heated conversations with Ferguson, but he does give a hint that it was not all smiles all the time.
Not that it ever is. Players and managers often have differences of opinions and there can be strong discussions, but what’s important for any team is that they come to an understanding and work together.
