Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has claimed that West Ham are the best team in London, dismissing the view that Arsenal are the capital’s top side.
Of course, Ferdinand may be a bit biased having been a West Ham player during his career, but for the first time in years, this is an argument that can actually be taken seriously.
The league table doesn’t lie, and the point tallies so far would certainly suggest that the Hammers are the best team in London.
“Do you reckon Arsenal are the best team in London at the minute?” Ferdinand’s co-host asked.
“West Ham are the best team in London right now, West Ham are the best team in London,”
Joel Beya then went on to make a point about Chelsea potentially improving under Thomas Tuchel, but Ferdinand was having none of it, interjecting with a further claim about West Ham.
“West Ham are the best team in London right now, is that right or not?” Ferdinand asked rhetorically.
The fact that this is even a debate right now shows how far West Ham have come in recent years.
David Moyes has completely transformed this team, and at the moment they are the best side in the city, the league table tells you that much.
Of course, whether or not the Hammers can sustain this for the remainder of the season remains to be seen, but the debate about whether or not they’re better than Arsenal is certainly there to be had.
