Rio Ferdinand has urged Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale to return to the Premier League, but is desperate to see him join Manchester United rather than return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale, 28, showed just what he is capable of on Saturday evening in Kyiv as he scored a brace despite only entering the Champions League final in the 61st minute. His first goal is one of the best ever to be scored in the final of the competition.

The former Spurs and Southampton star has been linked with a move away from Real this summer, after falling down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane.

It has seen him linked with a move to both Spurs and Manchester United, though BBC Sport claim his £400,000-a-week wages will price Spurs out of a move for the Wales international. Ferdinand considered his future on Instagram.

“I feel it’s up to him to decide what he wants,” Ferdinand said. “Some will say he has nothing to prove & I understand that but does he want to go somewhere & be the main man & take on the full responsibility of a club who want to win?

“Personally I would love to see him come back to the Premier League (preferably with Manchester United) & dominate. Write a new chapter as a leader of a club, the go to guy at all times, the icon.”

Bale has been forced to watch from the sidelines for much of the campaign this season, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Isco and Marco Asensio all being used ahead of the attacker.

However, Bale has still managed to score 21 goals in 39 league and cup outings, 13 of which were substitute appearances. He has a contract at Real until the summer of 2022.
