Harry Winks scored Tottenham Hotspur’s opening goal against West Ham United yesterday.
Rio Ferdinand has told BT Sport that Harry Winks will get destroyed by Tottenham Hotspur’s squad for his celebration after he scored against West Ham United yesterday.
Winks was handed his first Premier League start for Spurs against the Hammers, and the midfielder marked it by scoring his side’s first goal.
The 20-year-old showed good reactions to poke in a shot from close range, after Darren Randolph had initially saved well from Vincent Janssen’s shot.
Winks was clearly overcome with emotion when the ball hit the back of the net, and he went sprinting over to embrace Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.
And Ferdinand claims that Winks may come to regret his actions after scoring, as it is inevitable he will be getting plenty of stick from his Tottenham teammates for celebrating with the manager.
“He’ll be getting hammered tomorrow when they go into training,” Ferdinand laughed, during BT Sport’s live coverage of the game. “Teacher’s pet and all that! If he could rewind and do it again, he would have gone elsewhere. He’ll be getting destroyed in the changing room after that.”
Winks’ goal was vital for Spurs, as they fought back against the Hammers to claim the three points.
West Ham had taken the lead in the first-half when Michail Antonio headed home from close range, but Winks gave Spurs a footing.
Slaven Bilic’s side did manage to go in front again when Manuel Lanzini netted from the penalty spot, but a late Harry Kane brace provided Spurs with the three points.
Tottenham are now unbeaten in their first 12 Premier League matches of the season, and they are only three points behind league leaders Liverpool.
