Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier gave away a penalty in his side’s 2-2 draw with Juventus.
Rio Ferdinand has told BT Sport that he has never rated Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier.
Spurs signed Aurier from PSG in the summer in a £23 million transfer, according to BBC Sport, but he has not always looked solid since moving to the Lilywhites.
Aurier has shown flashes of quality, but has undone much of his good work with moments of madness.
Aurier was guilty of giving away a cheap penalty in Tottenham’s match against Juventus last night, and his mistake could have proved costly.
Spurs were 2-1 down at the time when he brought Douglas Costa down in the box, but fortunately Gonzalo Higuain missed from the spot.
And Ferdinand admitted that Aurier is letting Spurs down far too often.
“As a defender I’ve never really rated Aurier to be honest,” Ferdinand said. “He’s very rash and panics and lets his team down far too often.”
Aurier was favoured over Kieran Tripper for Spurs’ match against Juve last night, which ended up as a 2-2 draw.
The Ivorian cannot play in the second leg, as he picked up a yellow card, which will mean he is suspended for the match at Wembley.
