Hernandez was brought on as a late substitute during the Hammers’ match against Arsenal, but he missed a glorious opportunity to win the match.
The Mexican striker was played through in the last minute by Mark Noble, but hit the crossbar when well placed.
And Ferdinand, who played with Hernandez at Manchester United earlier in their respective careers, knows just how high the 29-year-old’s standards are.
“He’s a clinical goalscorer and this chance… he won’t sleep tonight,” Ferdinand said. “He hits either corner and he scores. He’ll be disappointed and thinking he should have scored.”
Hernandez is only just back from injury, and is now facing a fight to win his place back.
Moyes has partnered Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio together in attacking positions recently, and the duo have worked well together.
West Ham have beaten Chelsea and picked up a point against Arsenal in their last two fixtures.
The Hammers are still in the relegation zone though, with their next match coming against Stoke City at the weekend.
