Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Virgil van Dijk still doesn’t look fully fit this season.

As we all know, the defender spent the majority of last season on the sidelines after picking up a serious ligament injury against Everton, and while he’s returned to the starting XI this term, Ferdinand believes he’s not quite looking back to his best yet.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand’s co-host asked him if he thought he was fully fit after noticing that he was hesitating with his long-range pasing.

“If you had seen the last couple of games that’s what he’s been doing, hitting 40 or 50 yard balls. Yeah, I don’t think it’s like that, you go in there and you play full throttle. I think he wanted to be fresh and to marshall Lukaku for the full 90 minutes. I think he’s still searching for full fitness, but I think he managed himself through the game well,” Ferdinand said.

Imagine when he is

If van Dijk isn’t fully fit at the moment, just imagine how good he’ll be when he is.

The defender is already looking brilliant this term – after all, Liverpool have only conceded one goal all season, so when he’s back to his very best the Reds could be nigh on unbeatable once again.

In our view, van Dijk has looked absolutely fine, but Ferdinand is an expert on this type of thing, so we have to take his view on board.

Fingers crossed the Dutchman can lead Liverpool to more success this season.
