Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been speaking about Steven Gerrard amid rumours he could be in the running to get the Newcastle job.
Gerrard is currently the Rangers manager, but it has been reported that Newcastle may attempt to pry him out of Ibrox.
However, despite Newcastle’s incredible newfound riches, Ferdinand believes that Gerrard will be looking at Liverpool as his next destination.
What’s been said?
Ferdinand was speaking about Gerrard’s links to Liverpool.
“Do you know what, even with Steven Gerrard, I see his name mentioned alongside the (Newcastle) job as well, I can’t see someone like him going there. I think his eyes are on Liverpool, how much longer can Klopp stay at Liverpool? He could be there for five more years or he could turn around an 18 months and say ‘listen, this is me’. I think Steven Gerrard will be looking at Liverpool as his next step rather than somewhere like Newcastle,” Ferdinand said.

Makes sense
It would make a lot of sense if Gerrard was waiting for Klopp to leave Liverpool before leaving Rangers.
Think about it, Gerrard is a Liverpool legend and he’s got a good thing going at Rangers. After all, he took them to an undefeated season last term and won their first league title in a decade.
Gerrard would certainly be a contender for the Liverpool job after Klopp leaves, and while Newcastle may be keen on him, it’s hard to imagine Gerrard taking such a role at this moment in time.
