Rio Ferdinand has talked about how much of a challenge it is to play at Anfield after Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 7-0 on Sunday.

While some have tried to dismiss the atmosphere in the Reds’ home stadium as overstated, the hosts proved against Erik ten Hag’s side and tend to do in general that it is an extremely difficult place to leave with a victory.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, who engaged in a number of battles against Liverpool at Anfield gave an insight into this very reality.

Ultimately, it seemed like the United players could not hack it under the pressure in Merseyside after they shipped as many as 6 goals after what was a competitive 1st half between both arch-rivals.

Rio Ferdinand said on the FIVE YouTube channel that this group of Manchester United players, like many others in the past may have struggled to cope with the atmosphere at Anfield after they were annihilated by Liverpool.

“You can’t coach anybody to be prepared for certain atmospheres. Anfield’s one of those places where you can’t, in a training ground go, ‘Oh, this is what you’re going to get. This is what you see.’ Till you get there and feel it, I said it in my post-match reaction.”

Rio Ferdinand is spot on

It comes as no surprise that despite dominating English football for over half a decade, Manchester City only managed to end their decade-long hoodoo at the renowned stadium during the 2020/2021 season after a 4-1 win.

As a result, it does not come as a shock, as Rio Ferdinand implied that the same was the case for the Manchester United players as Liverpool tore them to pieces at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp and his side have one of the best 12th men in world football and that is unlikely to ever change.
