Lisandro Martinez made his first appearance in nine months for Manchester United, coming off the bench in Sunday’s draw at Crystal Palace.

The return of Lisandro Martinez is a major boost for Ruben Amorim as United head into a busy December fixture list.

His comeback from an ACL injury came against the same team he was originally injured against, adding a bit of symmetry to his return. And while it wasn’t a long spell on the pitch, he made an immediate impact, winning a couple of early duels and getting important minutes under his belt.

It was only a short runout against Palace, but it marked an important step back to fitness ahead of what looks like a critical month in United’s season.

Lisandro Martinez sends emotional message after Manchester United comeback

Taking to Instagram after the match, Martinez shared a message about his comeback. The post quickly filled with replies from teammates and other figures across the football world.

The strong reaction from inside and outside Old Trafford speaks to how highly thought of Martinez is within the club.

Bruno Fernandes was quick to comment on Martinez’s return following the final whistle, underlining just how important the Argentine defender is to the side.

Should Lisandro Martinez return to the starting XI against West Ham?

Ruben Amorim is facing another busy stretch in December, and he’ll need to freshen up his side again when Manchester United take on West Ham this Saturday.

Kobbie Mainoo looks set to come back into the starting line-up, and there’s also a possibility Lisandro Martinez could be included from the off.

If Martinez does start, it could open the door for Luke Shaw to be used as a left-wing-back.

Amorim will have a better sense than most of how many minutes Martinez can handle, but with games piling up, now might be a good time to get him more involved. The upcoming fixture list only gets busier from here.
