Eberechi Eze’s move to the number ten role at Arsenal is starting to pay off, and both Rio Ferdinand and Thierry Henry agree it’s where he looks most comfortable.

Eze was outstanding in the North London Derby, netting a hat-trick as Arsenal took a six-point lead at the top of the table.

He hasn’t scored in his first few games for the Gunners, but he made up for that by finding the net three times against Spurs.

The two former players believe Eze has found his best spot in Mikel Arteta’s lineup and could become an even more important figure moving forward.

Ferdinand also pointed out that Eze has more of an impact on matches when playing through the middle rather than being pushed out wide.

While Eze has often featured on the left, his performance against Spurs in a more central role offered a different perspective on where he might be most effective.

“But his super strength is that his ability just to take the ball in tight areas and ghost people, move people out of the way and then be able to play that next pass.”

Eze’s showing against Tottenham didn’t just highlight his potential for Arsenal – it also put him back in the conversation for an England starting spot ahead of the World Cup. With Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, and Phil Foden all vying for roles in midfield, there’s plenty of competition. But performances like this one will keep him firmly in contention.

Martin Odegaard now faces an uphill battle at Arsenal

It’s not just Bellingham, Palmer, and Foden who will have taken notice of Eze’s performance—Martin Odegaard will have as well.

The Norwegian midfielder is currently sidelined with injury and working his way back to fitness. But when he does return, reclaiming his spot in the starting XI may not be straightforward anymore.

While both could certainly play together, recent events have underlined the value of having options. Odegaard’s absence has opened the door for others, and Eze has stepped through it impressively.

Leandro Trossard is excelling on the left wing, so moving Eze there isn’t really an option. That leaves him and Odegaard set to compete directly for the central role behind the striker.
