Robbie Savage has claimed that he would take Manchester United’s Harry Maguire over Arsenal defender, Ben White ‘right now’, as he told BBC’s 606.

The former midfielder left his fellow pundit, Chris Sutton, surprised by his admission about the Manchester United and Arsenal duo.

As Maguire proved in the Manchester derby over the weekend, the English centre-back is seriously struggling for form and that big-money price-tag on his shoulder is proving to be a disaster.

It’s a different scenario over in north London because White is playing a big part in Arsenal taking the driving seat in the race to finish in the Champions League places this season.

But, when Savage was asked who is better and who he would take between Maguire and White, he issued this response in a conversation with ex-striker, Sutton.

“Seriously, who would have, Ben White or Harry Maguire? If you had to choose one,” asked Sutton.

Savage responded: “Right now, I would have Harry Maguire still. Who would Gareth Southgate choose?

On who is playing better between the two: “Ben White’s not playing great. Is he playing great? I would take Harry Maguire over Ben White right now.”

Sutton responded: “Oh, come on! Ben White is playing better than Harry Maguire!? Who is playing the best right now? We are talking about club form.”

At the start of the season, when Arsenal paid Brighton big bucks for White, there was a lot of criticism aimed towards the club.

Many felt that they were making a mistake splashing the cash on a player that wasn’t even an England regular, didn’t go to Euro 2020 and only had one season under his belt in the Premier League.

But Mikel Arteta saw something in the ball-carrying defender and now they are paying the rewards for that.

Arsenal have kept 11 clean sheets this season – only the top two – Manchester City and Liverpool have kept more.
