There has been a lot of noise around the future of David Moyes recently, from West Ham United’s 5-1 drubbing to Newcastle United to their much-needed 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
In this heated nine-team relegation scrap, where managers are getting fired left, right and centre, it’s only a matter of time before the pressure is back on you.
That was the case with David Moyes, and given that noise, Paul Merson questioned whether Burnley’s promotion-winning manager Vincent Kompany would consider a move to the London Stadium ‘right now’ because they are a ‘big club’.

On Easter Friday, Burnley secured promotion to the Premier League by beating automatic hopefuls Middlesbrough – after 39 games they are on 87 points with only two defeats to their name.
It’s a remarkable achievement from the Manchester City legend – who is being tipped for the Tottenham job among others.
Nonetheless, Merson spoke about Moyes’ future prior to their win over Fulham, now that win is a relief, but normal services can resume next week if they lose again, but would Kompany come in now if the Scotsman is booted out, it was questioned by Merson on Sky Sports News (07/04/23).
“If West Ham come calling for Vincent Kompany, does he go to West Ham?” asked Merson.
On suggestions that West Ham would be too small of a challenge: “What are Burnley going to do when they go up?
“In management, you have got to make hay whilst the sun shines. We see when they went to Manchester City the other week and got beat by six. I know Manchester City can beat anybody six.
“After ten games in the Premier League with Burnley, they could go – West Ham is a big club. But I am thinking right now.”

PRESSURE AROUND THE CORNER
That was a big three points for West Ham, their survival hopes and Moyes himself, added to the fact that his team managed to secure a much-needed clean sheet.
It was a brilliant reaction to the error-prone performance against Champions League-chasing Newcastle United.
Although, pressure is always around the corner, and given how the Hammers have performed this season, if Moyes doesn’t leave before May’s final whistle, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him head for the exit door in the summer.
