Brad Friedel has told Tottenham Hotspur to try and secure the transfer of Aston Villa number one Emiliano Martinez to replace Hugo Lloris.
But the former Premier League shot-stopper questioned if Tottenham could be able to lure Emiliano Martinez from an Aston Villa side that secured European football under Unai Emery this term, as he told Sky Sports News (06/06/23).
Emiliano Martinez played a big role in that as Villa, who were battling relegation in November and 14 points behind Tottenham, ended the season above the north London club to secure that final European spot.

Tottenham have a new man in the dugout after bringing in Ange Postecoglou from Celtic, as the Greek-born Australian has some big calls to make before he can get warm in his seat.
The obvious one is trying to sort out Harry Kane’s future and what to do if he leaves, but the other is replacing long-time number one, Hugo Lloris.
The France international is going to leave Spurs this summer and when Friedel was asked who could replace the 36-year-old, he put forward Martinez’s name.
“There are quite a few out there (that Tottenham could sign),” said Friedel. “I mean, right now, Emi Martinez has been so good.
“At this stage, I would be trying to see if Emi Martinez would go over.”

No sense in Martinez leaving Villa for Tottenham
Whilst Villa fans won’t like to hear it, if Martinez wants to join another Champions League team, then there is nothing they can do because he is good enough to do so and there are certain doors open.
But making that switch to Tottenham, who are now very much in need of a number one, makes no sense.
Tottenham are in decline, they could lose their best player, whilst Villa are moving forward, they have a better coach than Spurs and historically are the bigger club.
Plus, Tottenham aren’t in the Champions League, and given the road they are currently going down, they aren’t going to go be getting back anytime soon.
