It seems as though Arsenal may be about to sign Martin Odegaard, and this news has sparked something of a mixed reaction from the wider footballing world.
Some believe that the Gunners aren’t strengthening by bringing the Norwegian in, while others believe that Odegaard will prove to be a bargain at just £30m.
Gunners legend Michael Thomas certainly seems to believe Odegaard represents value for money, and he’s responded after TalkSPORT pundits Alex Crook and Laura Woods claimed otherwise.
The TalkSPORT hosts believe that Odegaard will cost too much, while Thomas seems to think he’s good value.
The truth probably lies somewhere in between, and it’s all about whether or not he lives up to his potential.
At the age of just 22, Odegaard has a lot of room to grow and improve, but right now, it’s hard to argue that he’s worth £30m.
However, Thomas then pointed to the fact that a Championship player, Emi Buendia, moved for more this summer, and that is a brilliant point to make.
If a Norwich City player is worth £33m, then surely a player who has played regularly in La Liga and is on the books at Real Madrid is worth just as much?
In this day and age it’s so hard to figure out a player’s true market value, but it has to be said that Thomas has a point about Odegaard’s price.
Whether or not he proves to be a bargain remains to be seen, but upon first glance, it’s hard to argue that it’s a poor deal, especially when you compare it to what Villa paid for Buendia.
