Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp slammed recent criticism of Roberto Firmino on Sky Sports Football (9:37pm, November 22, 2020).

Klopp praised Firmino following Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Leicester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

The Brazil international forward had a good game and scored the Reds’ third goal in the 86th minute.

The 29-year-old has come under criticism in recent times for his lack of goals, and there have been calls for Diogo Jota to play ahead of him given the form of the Portugal international winger.

Jota scored against Leicester and so did Firmino, and after the match, Klopp raved about the latter, who cost the Reds £29 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015, as reported by BBC Sport.

Klopp told Sky Sports Football (9:37pm, November 22, 2020), as transcribed by The Express: “That front line didn’t play too often together but how they did that tonight was not bad. And Bobby, what people say about him is ridiculous.

“Just because you have nothing else to talk about sometimes is my feeling. You cannot be closer to a goal than he was tonight.

“Everybody thought in that moment, ‘yes, great’ and exactly the right goalscorer. He played outstanding again so all good.”

Important player for Liverpool

Firmino is a very good player and remains an important figure for Liverpool.

The Brazilian may not score as many goals as Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, but he is very important in the way the Reds attack and press.

The 29-year-old has scored two goals and provided two assists in nine Premier League matches for Liverpool so far this season, according to WhoScored.
