Nigel de Jong has raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur target Memphis Depay on ITV (7:40pm, June 13, 2021).
De Jong believes that Depay, who has been linked with Tottenham in the summer transfer window, is a very good player whose stats at Lyon this past season were “ridiculous”.
The former Manchester City and Netherlands international defensive midfielder has outlined Depay’s work-rate as well.
As we covered here on HITC Sport, FC Inter News reported this month that Tottenham, Barcelona and Inter Milan are interested in signing Depay on a free transfer.
The former Manchester United forward is leaving Lyon this summer and will be available on a free transfer.
What has been said?
De Jong said about Depay on ITV (7:40pm, June 13, 2021): “He has matured. He knows his way to the goal. He knows what his qualities are. His work-rate is second to none.
“People only always try to see the outside of him, outside of football, outside of him, but if you see his work-rate, if you see how dedicated he is towards the game, and he has developed himself as one of the main guys in the national team and also for Lyon.
“If you look at the stats that he had for Olympique Lyon last year, it was ridiculous, his goals and assists.”

Would Memphis Depay make Tottenham Hotspur better?
Depay could not make a massive impact when he was at Manchester United.
However, the 27-year-old has revived his career at Lyon and is now one of the better players in Europe.
As De Jong says, the Netherlands international’s stats at Lyon this past season were simply stunning.

The Dutchman scored 20 goals and gave 12 assists in Ligue 1.
Depay is quick, works hard, scores goals and creates chances, and the former PSV star would make Spurs better and more potent in attack.
Given that the 27-year-old would be a free transfer, it would be very appealing to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy indeed.
